Facts & History - The Colossi of Memnon
The Colossi of Memnon are two massive statues that once guarded the tomb of King Amenhotep III, located near the Valley of the Queens. This former temple was once the largest in the world, even larger than the Temple of Karnak.

Constructed around 1350 BC, these statues stand at approximately 20 meters (66 feet) tall. The main tomb was destroyed in an earthquake around 1200 BC, but the statues remain intact to this day!

Each statue weighs approximately 650 metric tons, and you can capture some stunning photos with the mountains and desert serving as a backdrop.

While there may not be much to visit here, it's still well worth a trip!

The Colossi of Memnon are located on the West Bank of the Nile in the outskirts of Luxor, Egypt.

Once you arrive in Luxor, it's easy to find a driver to take you to the colossi and other West Bank attractions, or your hotel can usually arrange this service for you.
